Europe perfected driving the car. China may be redefining being in it.

After two weeks in Europe this summer, one thing stands out: cars are still discussed through performance, handling, engineering and design. Then look at China. Karaoke, AI assistants, headlights projecting films. Some of it looks excessive. Some of it probably is. But the strange feature is not always the story. The behaviour behind it matters more. Chinese carmakers are not only asking how to make driving better. They are asking what the car is worth when no one is driving. That may be the bigger shift.
